My written proposal of the Audio Project

In the Audio Project, I would like to use different sound to compose my journey from home to here, St. Mary’s College of Maryland. I think it is a good chance for me to record my feeling and emotional changes in this long journey. It is because memories will fade away if we don’t grasp it tight. Although it may not be a piece of interesting audio Project to everyone, it is meaningful to me. Art works never please everyone in the world. For the elements in the Project, I guess I could get most of the concrete sound from the free sound project. (In fact, I’ve already gathered most of them) I will also try to record some sound to represent my mental world. It’s hard to achieve and hard to represent to others, but I will try to work on it first. Maybe failure can bring me into a different world. Some tiny little sound maybe neglected in our daily lives. Through composing my journey, I should spare some quiet moments to rewind the tape in my mind. :>

My response to Sound Project

I clicked into John Lennon- Radio Play and I was unable to finish the whole clip. At first, I thought I have some problems with my computer. Because, the clip was just showing non-stop hesitate sound. I can’t relate it to “music” or “art” at all. And there was a man keep on talking in flat tone (like giving a lecture!) at the background, which was quite irritating. It was not enjoyable and I couldn’t find any description about what the project was about.
As what we have discussed in last lesson, “Art” is so subjective. I don’t know how to appreciate it, but maybe someone else may found it interesting and valuable. Different people have different rulers to measure “good or bad” in their mind.

My own response to the essay

After reading the essay, I’m quite confused about what is the underlying meaning of detournement. Yet, it is interesting that the writer connected Music, Movie and furniture in one single theme. The focus of the essay was on the “re-produce” art work base on “established/ old” artwork from others. There are artists speaking on both sides about it’s uprising popularity. For me, I think the foremost consideration is the respect pay for the originally producer. According to the writer, not only music, all kinds of art is personal. When an artist composes an art product, his/her own view and perception must have poured in it. Similar case to that, reediting preexisting product means another ones perception is involved. Therefore, twisting or altering is inevitable. "Not to be offensive" is the prime consideration.
Like deejaying, different kind of music can represent different people’s characters. At the same time, its existence is for catering different people’s need. Here is a link to DJ Mark the 45 King website. There is a Virtual mixer that everyone can use to make their own music according to their preference. It is funny because anyone can remix their own song by their own preference. Do-it-yourself became an popular culture nowadays.

This is all about Suicide!

At first, my attention was caught by the yellow bath duck. A bath duck is supposed to be a toy for children and associated with happiness. However, the artistic designer created it as a suicide tool. The title “One Use Only” means, after you use the toy, you will die and won’t get another chance to use it again!
When I click into other projects that deal with suicide, I was surprise that there are people making different tools for suicide purpose. For instances, “The Walker”, it is a metal device placed around the waist that tighten a bit for every step the user walk, until it is so tight that the user suffocated.
I thought these designers are crazy and cold blood. However, they claimed that their aim was to make aesthetical effects for suicide.

Hello~

This is a testing post!
